Turkey made efforts to increase awareness in the general awareness of diabetes. In this context, FSM and YSS bridges, which were illuminated with color and light shows on important days, were colored this time for World Diabetes Day.
The visual feast on the bridges, which turn blue as the weather darkens, will continue until dawn.
Due to the rapid increase in diabetes, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared “14 November World Diabetes Day” in 1991 and the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted this resolution in 2006.
According to information compiled by the IDF from data released in 2017, approximately 425 million adults (20-79 years old) will have diabetes by this time, while this number will increase by 48 percent to 629 million by 2045.
